  1. Other than largely Lake County towns, and a few towns in DuPage, Kane, and Cook County, the momentum for bans has luckily started to cool slightly(though its still VERY HIGH), with the exception of a few central Illinois cities(Decatur and Danville so far have been leaning against bans). Not surprisingly, bans are quickly becoming heavily considered all over suburban Chicago, not because of Chicago’s ban, but because stupid Cook County(near suburban Chicago) passed a countywide ban taking effect in March ‘07(although suburbs can pass less-restrictive ordinances and opt out of it, with a few suburbs already working on less-restrictve ordinances). Bans that have been approved are mainly concentrated in Cook, Lake, or DuPage County suburbs, or in central Illinois cities(Elk Grove, Hinsdale, Buffalo Grove, Lake Forest, Champaign-Urbana, + Bloomington-Normal).

As for the rest of the state, Madison and St. Clair(east suburban St. Louis/”Metro East”) rejected countywide bans for unincorporated areas recently. A few counties are discussing this, but none have passed, other than Sangamon County(Springfield). Several cities just rejected bans this year(notably Joliet, Jacksonville, and Mundelein + Antioch(take those twin defeats, Lake County antis!)), and there’s next to no momentum for bans in most of this state(other than a few antis trying to bring it up in the Rockford area, Galena, Carbondale, and Stephenson County(but not in city of Freeport yet)). Thankfully, a decent number of town/city councilmen throughout this state(excluding in DuPage + Kane Counties) have stood up to the antis and rejected bans as of late!

  2. The city of Springfield(along with Sangamon County’s unincorporated ban I mentioned) also had one that just took effect this month, but that’s the only city or county ban I forgot to mention.

  3. My homestate’s legislature unfortunately voted in favor of a very strict statewide smoking ban earlier this year, which takes effect on January 1st. It’s so strict, that even ALL bars, private clubs, and casinos are included in the ban. Just thought I’d tell ya, so you can update your site(and of course, this is one of many reasons why I’m planning to move out of IL in the next few years).
